Redditor JimJamzzz wrote a stellare summary of the current experience:

Bear in mind I’m only 2-3 hours into the game but thought I’d give a few pro’s and con’s of the new player experience so far also of note I haven’t done any reading watching of vods since the initial announcement.

Pro’s

  • The game is definitely pretty if a little “muted” in tone
  • Class and character creation is nice to have
  • Gear changing the appearance of your character is always a big plus
  • Seamless changing of portrait and landscape is impressive and something I wish all games would include
  • There seems to be a fair bit of variety and plenty to do including a bottomless dungeon which bodes well for depth and replay-ability
  • Three tiered skill tree not to dissimilar to the old diablo 2 system looks like a lot of fun (also has a reroll option for gems)
  • Rebuilding the town looks like it will be fun and allow for a bit more customisation in terms of decoration and layout
  • The hint/trail system is super handy and means your never really stuck

Con’s

  • I’m using a mate 20 pro and performance is consistently choppy hoping this improves over time
  • The loot system and any joy derived from it is absolutely destroyed by the timers on chests. Only one chest can be opened at a time and getting a reward that can’t be opened for half a day is extremely demotivating
  • There are timers on everything, literally everything. Even the base level chest which has a five second timer on it. Just why?
  • The movement system is on rails but allows for a certain degree of free movement which ends up being the worst of both worlds. Expect linear trails with no real choice outside of trail A or trail B style options but also get ready to inextricably get caught and blocked behind all manner of terrain
  • The game so far (main story) is mind mumblingly easy. Been spamming attacks with no thought to skills or blocking and have yet to fall under 50% health. Hope difficulty ramps up soon.

Mainly due to the loot box timers I’m really finding it hard to stay motivated to play but I’ll do a more comprehensive run down/update in a week or two. Feel free to ask any questions though.
